Flash Mob America is an American production company founded in 2009 by Conroe Brooks and Staci Lawrence. Flash mobs are organized events that surprise and entertain onlookers when participants unsuspectingly breakout into a choreographed dance number and then quickly disperse. Flash Mob America’s purpose is to “create joy through surprise and give back to the community by bringing everyone closer together.” FMA has produced flash mobs for such clients as American Red Cross, GLAAD, Heal the Bay, Dell, Oscar Mayer, Suave, Rachael Ray, The Bachelorette, and Modern Family. History Inspired by Michael Jackson’s emotional memorial, Brooks and Lawrence produced their first flash mob in July 2009 when they recreated Sweden’s “Beat It” flash mob. They next produced a flash mob honoring the late pop star on what would have been his 51st birthday, which caught the attention of Universal Music Group, who in turn hired them to produce a flash mob for Michael’s sister Janet Jackson. In October 2011, a video of a marriage-proposal flash mob at UCLA, which was produced by Flash Mob America, received over 1,000,000 views within a week of being posted to YouTube and, as a result, received the attention of several major media outlets.
