First Baptist Christian School of Kennesaw

First Baptist Christian School of Kennesaw is a Baptist private school located in Kennesaw, Georgia, USA. It is a ministry of the Kennesaw First Baptist Church.
History
The school was founded in the 1960s as a preschool; it was not until the early 1990s that the elementary school division was founded. Nancy Thompson was the elementary principal from its inception to 2008. Until 2004, the preschool department was a separate entity from the elementary division and was led by Laura Coffey, but upon Coffey's departure Thompson took control. In May 2008, Thompson made the surprise announcement that she was resigning to take a position at another Christian school, and Kim Dahnke took over as principal in August of that year.

School Life
First Baptist Christian School of Kennesaw was established in 1969 as a ministry of Kennesaw First Baptist Church. FBCS originally started as preschool then added grades over the years, and recently the long-term goal of extending into post-elementary education was realized by creating a specialized class blending fifth and sixth grades. Every student is offered 4 “specials” classes on a weekly basis - Spanish, computer, library, and music. Each student also attends weekly chapel in the church sanctuary as well as daily Bible lessons in the classroom. The current enrollment is approximately 200 children.
FBCS is offering clubs this year for K-6th grade, including typing skills, music, and drama.
The elementary students present a spring musical each year for the school and community. FBCS students are always a part of Kennesaw city events and won Best Float for the Santa Parade 2007 (interestingly enough, the topic of Santa Claus had previously been banned among staff and students under the Thompson administration in favor of the appreciation of Jesus Christ's birth) and People’s Choice Award for the 2008 Pumpkin Walk. The school loves to have family members involved throughout the year during events such as Grandparents' Day, Christmas Chapel, Donuts with Dad, and Mother’s Day.
Additional information
Parents are a vital part of the life of FBCS, relying on them for many volunteer opportunities, and as such are always welcome within the walls of FBCS. Many of the school's students and staff attend the church; however, many different types of persons make up the student body.
