Filipino wave

The Filipino Wave is a recent surge of numerous Filipino/Filipino American celebrities who are popular/semi known in mainstream American society. It also refers to numerous actors/actresses/athletes/musicians/reality show stars that appear on television/movies/music videos, Filipino cultural references, Tagalog language usage in TV, movies, song,video games,comic books, devoted following to noontime show Wowowee and the rising popularity of the Papaya dance. Filipinos are also a subject of stereotypes which are sometimes negative half truths and usually made fun of in comedy and satirical shows. The inspiration of the term came from the Korean Wave sweeping across Far East Asia.

*Ugly Betty episode Swag, the character Oshi comes out to The Black Eyed Peas song Bebot.
* The character Talim in the Soul Calibur series is of Philippine descent.
* The character Mr. Big from SNK's Art of Fighting series uses escrima sticks.

* In the game Mortal Kombat, the characters Quan Chi and Dairou practice Escrima, also, Sonya Blade and Kobra use Kali sticks. In Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Master Sultan Uddin not only portrayed Reptile, but choreographed Princess Kitana's fight sequence showcasing movements of Eskrima Serrada. In Mortal Kombat Conquest, the television series, Master Sultan Uddin showcased Eskrima Serrada as the character Noob Saibot.
