“FH-Complete” is a free software package developed in 2004 by the System Development Department of the UAS Technikum Wien. The goal was, and is, to program and further develop a piece of software customized to meet the specific administrative needs of educational institutions. History The requirements a university of applied sciences places on management software will differ in many aspects from other educational institutions such as schools or academic universities. In 2005, when it became clear that there was no software available on the market that met these specific requirements (in particular for course planning), the UAS Technikum Wien decided to develop a suitable piece of software themselves. At the same time, it was also decided that the developments would be licensed as free software in order to offer other educational institutions the opportunity for cooperation. The first application and the true forerunner to the package is today's “Tempus”, which was developed in 2004 by the Head of System Development Department of the UAS Technikum Wien, Christian Paminger. The further developments and the programming of the remaining modules of FH-Complete were then carried out by the entire System Development team. Since September 2008, FH-Complete or individual modules has been in use in several educational institutions, which also participate in the further development of the software. Technical Design The program and its components are licensed under and enable access from any location via HTTP. Open standards are used such as HTML, CSS and PHP, making the software 100% free and independent. FH-Complete is a remote web application based on PHP and an object-oriented basic architecture. The GUI is based largely on XUL and DHTML. A relational database (PostgreSQL) is used to store the data. In addition, the following technologies are used: * open standards such as XML, RDF, XSLT, SOAP * LDAP authentication * jQuery Interfaces to other systems, such as e-learning, CRM or groupware, further expand the range of possible applications for the software. Modules The product package currently includes five subprograms that are networked via a central database and together cover all the relevant areas of administration for a university of applied sciences. CIS The Campus Information System (CIS) is a central platform for students and lecturers that offers access to the most essential administrative areas and provides various services. It serves as a source of information and a means of communication and interaction for and between staff, lecturers and students of a university. The CIS can be used to view schedules, validate user data or provide support services for teaching activities. Important documents and links to various management systems can be found in the CIS. Summary of Features: * View and export schedules in a wide variety of formats * Manage news entries * Advanced interface to the eLearning platform Moodle * "My CIS” for individual information * Attendance, and grade lists * Many tools to support teaching activities FAS-Online The Free Administration System (FAS) is a multifunctional administration program for the management of students and staff at a university. From start of employment to retirement and from applicant to graduate, the program manages all the data for staff and students relevant for the teaching activities at a university. The FAS is linked to all the other applications of the FH-Complete system and vice versa. The FAS offers quick access to all the relevant information for everyday university life. The FAS is where master data for individuals is entered and managed, the status of applicants is followed, teaching units are scheduled and student data is maintained. The FAS can be used to print all the necessary documents and it provides a quick overview of the outstanding payments and borrowed resources. Summary of Features: * Management of the entire life cycle of a student * Teaching assignments and comprehensive costs reports * Data cleanup for BIS reporting with plausibility check * Company management * Management of student accounts * Archiving of certificates Tempus Tempus is the program for the creation, maintenance, and modification of schedules in educational institutions, in particular at universities of applied sciences. It enables multiple users to work on the same database and the same schedule all at the same time. The editing is done on a weekly basis according to calendar weeks. User input occurs primarily via drag & drop. The users receive the data for planning from the teaching assignments that were entered in the FAS. During the planning, the availability of the lecturers, students and rooms are taken into consideration and a warning is generated if there are any conflicts. Lecturers are able to enter preferred teaching times and availability, which the scheduling office can then view at a glance. Summary of Features: * User input via drag & drop * Automatic conflict check * Automatic update emails * Direct editing of the teaching assignments * Working with multiple windows VileSci VileSci is the maintenance interface for administrators where important background data is entered and maintained. Settings and data that can or should not be entered or edited with FAS, can be managed with VileSci. VileSci is used to manage groups and non-variable data, as well as to perform statistical analyses. Access rights are also set using this interface. Summary of Features: * Maintenance of courses * Merging of duplicate records * Extensive statistics module and use of * Management of room data, rights, and access cards WaWi The WaWi module offers a merchandise management system, an ordering system with budget overview, and an easy-to-use accounting system. What makes the module special, is the simple design and the underlying tree structure of the organizational units. This makes it possible to reliably and easily monitor the overall budget. An extensive inventory management with assignments to rooms and staff provides accurate data for depreciation and can serve as a system for loans or insurance surveys. Summary of Features: * Separate entry and assignment of invoices * Automatic email notification for the release of the order to the cost center management * Flexible authorization concept for the cost centers System Requirements The following system requirements must be met in order to use FH-Complete: * Web server (recommended: Apache 2.2) * PHP 5.2 or higher * PostgreSQL 8.4 (or SQL99 compatible database) Browser Requirements The Tempus and FAS applications require a Gecko-based browser or XULRunner: * SeaMonkey version 1.6 or higher * Firefox version 1.5 or higher The CIS and Vilesci applications can be used with any standards-compliant web browser.
