Fadi Kiblawi is "a Kuwaiti-born Palestinian who went to high school in St. Louis." He was reared in the United States. In October, 2001, Kiblawi resigned from the University of Michigan Student Assembly because he thought MSA did not appropriately address constituent concerns about a resolution supporting strikes on Afghanistan, saying, "I think what happened was completely undemocratic and I resign because I don't feel MSA is the legitimate student government." Kiblawi has been a supporter of divestment from Israel. In 2002 the Christian Science Monitor wrote of Kiblawi that, "Between classes and homework, Fadi Kiblawi, a senior at the University of Michigan, spends his free time researching US companies that do business in Israel and whose stock is owned by his university." In 2003, Kiblawi told a reporter that "The current atmosphere in this country has resulted in the wrongful detainment of thousands of Arabs," and expressed doubt as to whether Sami Al-Arian could get a fair trial in the United States.
