Evangelical Renewal Therapy is a form of Christian counseling developed by Rev. Patrick R. Saucer and published in 1991 in Paychological Reports which is a peer reviewed psychological journal. The name of the article is Evangelical renewal therapy: A proposal for integration of religious values into psychotherapy. Description Evangelical Renewal Therapy (ERT) is a means to integrate religious values into secular psychotherapy. ERT is based on the need to incorporate Christian values into the counseling being provided to many Christian clients. This includes counseling being offered by licensed mental health professionals as well as by unlicensed Christian counselors such as ministers, priests, and lay counselors. Guilt is the primary psychological and negative spiritual consequence of self-defeating behaviors (sins).. The Atheistic Ideation Complex (AIC) explains the process leading to psychological problems. The AIC explains that the acceptance of atheistic ideations lead to sins and psychological probolems. The Atheistic Ideation Reference Scale measures the degree to which a person has accepted Atheistic Ideations. Repentance, the modality of change in ERT, is achieved through the analysis of moral action, rebuke, confession, prayer, recompense, and mortification through good works.
