Euan Anderson

Euan Anderson has been a Scottish referee (Category One) since April 1998.
Background
Born in Scotland on March 16, 1983, today, Anderson is also a school teacher. As a youngster, he studied at the Dumbarton Academy and now he teaches computers at Clydebank High School.
Early career
It could be said that Anderson began his refereeing career at the tender age of 15. He got a flair for the profession from both his father and grandfather. They refereed at Hampden's Scottish Amateur Cup Finals. He believes though that combining the two careers (teaching and refereeing) is helpful as "the classroom is great preparation for a weekend dealing with the SPFL's top footballers." Being a teacher helps one hone their people skills which is needed to work between managers and players in the game.
Being a referee
Anderson believes that this career has given him the opportunity to participate in Sottish football at the "top level,"which he said would not have happened if he were a player. He just wouldn't have gone that far. Because of how much he enjoys both his professions he tries to combine them and thus leads courses for school students to encourage them to "pick up a whistle," which has been going well. Many of these students have gone on to qualify as referees, working on P7 games. Anderson's first position as a Category 1 referee was the Montrose versus East Fife game in the SFL Challenge Cup.
Indeed, today, the Scottish Football Association are looking towards younger referees. So Anderson's courses are helping with this. To keep in shape for being a referee, Anderson can also be found regularly jogging and cycling. In his spare time he likes to play golf.
