Estesombelo

Literally translated in Portuguese as 'this beautiful sound' Estesombelo is a contemplative collective of musicians based on ambient soundscapes along with minimal based drone based out of Chicago.
Performances frequently range from art galleries to music venues to exhibitions. They have collaborated with such artists as Sylvain Chauveau (Type, Fat Cat) and Chanel Pease; performed at such venues as the Empty Bottle and Elastic Arts Foundation; opened for such groups as Charalambides (Kranky), Zelienople (Type), and Noah Howard; performed at exhibitions such as the Speaker Project in the Hyde Park Art Center; and have also been a part of the Chicago drone festival Fugue State, organized by the Rebis label, which featured performances by David Daniell, Dreamweapon, Haptic, and The Number None.
A sound that is often to compared to experimental groups such as Keith Fullerton Whitman, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Growing, Stars of the Lid, and Eluvium, Estesombelo is continually evolving its sound. Their discography includes three albums: ‘Oppida Von Ataraxia’ which clocks in over sixty minutes in length; the single tracked piece ‘eye-oe’ which runs nearly twenty-six minutes; and their latest release, 'Cultivar.' 'Oppida' was well received by the Chicago magazine The Reader in a brief write up about Fugue State.
While incorporating visuals, with the use of photography, video, or animation, to augment the music, Estesombelo seeks to get the intended listener to actively feel like a part of the performance itself. By challenging not only themselves, but their audience as well, Estesombelo is constantly exploring new ground.
