Essex bus routes 542 and 543

Essex bus routes 542 and 543 are contracted bus routes in Loughton, Essex on the outskirts of London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Arriva Shires & Essex of Harlow. These routes replaced routes 214, 215, 219 and 220 on the 30th April 2007.
On Sundays, the Oakwood Hill section of these routes are replaced by route 240 (Debden to Waltham Cross via ).
History
Essex bus routes 542 and 543 started on the 30th April 2007 to replace the 214, 215, 219 and 220 local network. The Loughton/Debden circular routes 214, 215, 219 and 220 started in the 1980s after some London Buses routes stopped serving some of the Loughton and Debden housing estates. The old 167 served Oakwood Hill which the 214 and 215 routes replaced. The route was originally operated by Wests Coaches of South Woodford, before that company was bought out by County Bus in 1997. The contract then passed to Clintona Coaches of Brentwood in the 1998 until the 28th August 2004. After that, it shortly contracted to Imperial Buses of Rainham until the 28th August 2005 where Arriva Shires & Essex took over, renumbering the routes 542 and 543 on the 30th April 2007. Today, the routes are contracted with Arriva Shires & Essex operating from Harlow garage. Arriva originally used Mercedes-Benz minibuses but settled to use low floor Optare Solos.
Vehicles
Arriva originally used Plaxton Beaver 2 minibuses but eventually upgraded the routes to use low floor Optare Solos.
