Esmond Pitt is an IT consultant, entrepreneur, author, and musician based in Melbourne, Australia. He was the chief designer and current owner of the Faculti/32 programming platform which supported the Bank of Queensland's telling system from 1994-2001. In other language processor work, he contributed to the MIS Program Generator, 1976-9; the BBJ/Computer Power product Today, 1990-2; and a custom compiler written for NCR, again in association with David Pitt, 1994. He was a major contributor to the POSSUM medical informatics system 1997-2001, distributed by the Murdoch Children's Research Institute at the Royal Childrens' Hospital, Melbourne. He subsequently consulted in the Java, networking, and security areas, to a number of Australian financial institutions and to software companies in Australia, Sweden, U.K., Germany, and the United States. He was admitted MIEEE, and elected Fellow of the Australian Computer Society in recognition of his "distinguished contribution to the Australian software industry". Music He studied music with James A. Provan and William F.C. James; singing at the Globe Opera Studio; and conducting with Armando Krieger. He arranged and conducted the music for the premiere of , a short revue by John Romeril directed by Graeme Blundell, music by Edward Elgar, Elmer Bernstein, and Stephen D.J. Wallace for Melbourne University Student Theatre in 1971, and has subsequently conducted the Melbourne Opera Orchestra and other orchestras and choirs. He assisted with musical preparation for Melbourne Opera's initial seasons and conducted the backstage banda in Rigoletto (2004). He was tenor section leader for many years in The Melbourne Chorale, now known as the Melbourne Symphony Chorus, affiliated with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and wrote and performed many arrangements for The Victoria Chorale; both these organizations founded and directed by Val. J Pyers. He also retains a long-standing interest in jazz arrangement and performance. He is a competent performer on several instruments including the 12-string guitar, on which he cites Dick Rosmini as his major influence along with Keith Potger. For a short period he worked as guitarist for John Farnham and as musical director for Marina Dale, for whom he arranged and produced the single Never, Never, Never, and played a large number of cabaret dates with other Australian popular singers. Other He was Deputy Chairman 2002-2008 of Melbourne Opera, founded in 2002 to bring fullscale opera at affordable prices to the state of Victoria, Australia and is currently still a Director. He has served as Treasurer and Vice President (2004-2007) of the Melbourne Athenaeum of which he remains a Trustee.
