Eric Wordekemper

Eric A. Wordekemper (August 8, 1983 in Storm Lake, Iowa) is a professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He bats and throws right-handed. Wordekemper attended Creighton University and was drafted by the Yankees in 2005. After making his professional debut that season, Wordekemper has played at multiple levels of the Yankees' organization. During the 2007 season, he was named to the Florida State League all-star team and won the "Pitcher of the Year" award for that league.
Amateur career
Wordekemper attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. In his sophomore season, Wordekemper was an honorable-mention all-Missouri Valley Conference after going 6-4 with a 5.86 earned run average (ERA) in 83 innings pitched. During his junior season, Wordekemper suffered a serious elbow injury. In 2005, he went 6-0 with a 3.12 ERA in 43 innings pitched. On July 9, 2005, he signed with the Yankees. Wordekemper began his professional career that season with the rookie-level GCL Yankees. In nine games in the Gulf Coast League, he went 2-0 with a 2.12 earned run average (ERA) in two starts and seven relief appearances. Late into the 2006 season, Wordekemper was promoted to the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. He pitched one game for the Clippers and gave-up no runs in two innings pitched. With Tampa, he went 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA, 33 saves, and 34 strikeouts in 43 games, all in relief. He led the league in ERA, and saves. Wordekemper was promoted to the Double-A Trenton Thunder for one game and gave-up no runs while getting the save. Wordekemper played for the Class-A Advanced Tampa Yankees and the Double-A Trenton Thunder in 2008. In 35 combined games, he went 3-2 with a 4.15 ERA, six saves, and 46 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.<ref namedata/> In 2009, Wordekemper was assigned to the Double-A Trenton Thunder. He went 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA, one save, and 32 strikeouts in 28 games. Wordekemper was later promoted to the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees where he went 2-0 with a 4.32 ERA, one save, and 12 strikeouts in 10 games.<ref namedata/>
After the 2011 season, he signed with the Uni-President Lions.
