Eric John Diesel (born December 19, 1957) is an American real estate investor.
Early life
Eric Diesel was born on December 19, 1957 to John Wallace Diesel and Dolores Diesel.
He studied Mathematics and Philosophy at UCLA, obtaining a BS. He obtained a MS, and initiated a PhD, in Mathematics, Philosophy, Statistics and Operations Research at Stanford University.
Career
Diesel owned an auto shop in Palo Alto. He invested in real estate in California, buying, and harvesting timber from, undeveloped forest land in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's office brought a case against Diesel: three counts of violating the California Fish and Game code for polluting Stevens Creek and three more violating the county's grading ordinance. In September, he was arrested on a $50,000 warrant for environmental violations, but released shortly thereafter. The result of the court case saw Diesel fined $300,000 in damages, at that time the largest for a plaintiff of an environmental crime in the county. He was also sentenced to 6 months in jail. A further order was issued in 2004 to pay $368,444 to fix the environmental damage he caused, surpassing the previous record.
