Ephraim Williams Sr.

Ephraim Williams Sr. (1691 - 1754) was a land owner and land surveyor active in colonial Massachusetts. Williams was the father of Ephraim Williams Jr.
Life and career
Williams was born in 1691.<ref name=":0" />
In 1715, Ephraim Williams Jr. was born to Ephraim Williams Sr. and Elizabeth Jackson Williams (died 1718).<ref name=":0" />
In 1719, Williams married Abigail Jones (born 1694). They had six children.<ref name=":0" />
In 1737, Williams, his wife Jones, and their children were selected as one of the one of four white families to settle at the Indian mission in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. They moved there in June 1738.<ref name=":0" />
In 1739, Williams surveyed three townships on the Hoosic River. One of these would later be named Williamstown, Massachusetts.<ref name=":0" />
In 1752, the health of Williams and confidence in his leadership in the Stockbridge community decreased. His son, Ephraim Williams Jr., took over the job of managing his estate. Williams moved to Deerfield, Massachusetts, and died in 1754.<ref name=":0" />
