Born in the remote pastoral community of Tierra del Fuego village, Argentina in 1964 to local school teachers Maria and Pedro, Doctor Enrique dela Costa has proven to be one of the more significant identities to arise from the region. Graduating from medical school in 1983, he set about reversing the disparity in health care he had observed in the region during his childhood and adolescence by establishing (with USAID funding) a series of village run local health clinics that still service the region's communities today. He also achieved some notoriety when he appeared in a brand name toothpaste commercial, and for a period as a local politician. He has a wife, Constantina, and five children.

Recent Achievements Doctor Enrique dela Costa, since 2004 has been on sabattical in Australia. During this time he has pursued his passion for fishing and hunting, primarily in the Northern Territory where he has been targeting wild boar and landing Barramundi up to 25 kilograms.
His time in Australia has also given him the opportunity to work in Indigenous health.
His interest in remote and rural health has proven an asset in the more inaccesible reaches of Australia. His primary health care model, developed over years in his home country has proven equally applicable in the Indigenous Health setting. Enrique has demonstrated a model focussed on consultation, cooperation and facilitation at the grass roots level is universal in its utility.
Closer to Home Enrique has most recently appeared on talk back radio and on daytime television in his home country, advocating for improved equality in health provision for rural populations. He is presently being encouraged to participate more actively in local politics at a national level, although he is resitant to the idea citing family reasons.
