Enigmism is a set of beliefs that seeks to promote a new type of Atheism that accounts for the human emotional need that drives people into religion, beyond the facts and objectivity of darwinists. Its basic ideas are: The essential human condition is an insecurity surrounding ones own life, both in meaning and action. This condition is the result of our conscious, questioning mind colliding with a universe that does not give answers. It is this essential condition that has driven mankind to create science, religion, archetypal identity, nationalistic identity- and the various other schemas that create certainty in either natural mechanics (science) or create an illusion of certitude in ones own manner of existing (surrounding yourself with like minded, converting, killing or writing off the other). Art also stems from the Essential Condition, though it utilizes the mystery of natural beauty, subjectivity and individual originality rather than factual explanation, objectivity and conformity. Enigmism holds that while these religions and identities that divide men are created to offer a sense of security in opposition to the essential uncertainty of man, they fail in the post-tribal world, wherein societies have to interact with the other, in person or in conceptual confrontation, day after day. The dogma of the other threatens ones own security in that he holds most dear. This creates a condition that necessitates being able to write off another's viewpoint, or in lieu of that, converting or killing those who's dogma or manner of existence you cannot ignore. In this sense we are threatened more by similarity than difference. It is the group that is the most similar to the other, but slightly different, that causes great chagrin to a group. Catholics can write off atheists as deluded and crazy, but in Northern Ireland the roman catholics cannot ignore the protestants, the shias cannot ignore the sunnis, the israelis cannot ignore the palestinians, the skateboarders cannot ignore the roller bladers. Enigmism holds that the security one seeks through the certitude in one's own dogma, is better found without it. Dogma springs from the essential human uncertainty, religions and identities are answering the same question, but in different ways. Thus inherent in every situation involving it, there is an opportunity to unite in the macroscopic similarity (the common drive to make religions) or war over the microscopic differences (the particulars of each religion). In order to accomplish the former, the talons of certainty must be relaxed on the latter. Once this happens though, difference becomes an opportunity to learn about the way the other expresses his difference. Thus, without certitude (which arises for the sake of security) we actually increase our potential to be loved and recognized as complete human beings. Within the space of the essential human uncertainty, all become equal. Thus respect and consideration will flourish between men and each will feel the security that comes through acceptance. Art provides a model of a human discipline that already performs in this way, also interracial mating ability does as well. When the syncopation and blues harmony of freed slaves met european harmony and instrumentation in the Red LIght District in New Orleans, Jazz was born, and it was beautiful. When a white woman mates with a black man, a mixed child is born. Reproductive nature and art do not have these constraints, we have created them culturally due to our fear of the unknown.
