Emmett E. Miller, is a physician, therapist, and musician who became a pioneer in mind/body medicine when he invented and developed the first deep relaxation/guided imagery audiocassettes in the 1970s . He became internationally known in 1977 as a founder and Medical Director of the Cancer Support and Education Center (now the Center for Healing and Wellness) and in 1987 as a co-convener of the California State Task Force on Self-Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility . Miller is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and has been a lecturer and preceptor at Stanford University and The University of California. He is a widely recognized exptert on the subject of stress and relaxation techniques and his tapes, many of which feature music he composed, are considered to be "the best" in the field . He maintains a private practice in the San Francisco bay area, and is the author of various books, most recently Deep Healing: The Essence of Mind/Body Medicine (1997) .
