Elizabeth Klein

Elizabeth Johnson Klein is an American attorney and policy advisor. She was U.S. President Joe Biden's former nominee for United States Deputy Secretary of the Interior, Klein's nomination was pulled by the administration after signs that her nomination would fail to reach the 50 vote total after Senators Lisa Murkowski and Joe Manchin raised their concerns over some of her policy positions.
Education
Klein earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from George Washington University and a Juris Doctor from the Washington College of Law at American University. Klein was president of the WCL Environmental Law Society. She is a member of the Order of the Coif.
Career
Klein held various positions in the Clinton and Obama administrations, where she focused on renewable energy and climate change. After joining the Department of the Interior in 2010, she was associate deputy secretary of the DOI and principal deputy assistant secretary in the DOI Office of Policy, Management and Budget.
On January 18, 2021, it was announced that U.S. president Joe Biden had selected Klein as his nominee for United States Deputy Secretary of the Interior.<ref name":1" /> On March 22, 2021, Klein's nomination was withdrawn by the Biden administration.<ref name":2" />
