Electronics in pop music

Electronic instruments, like the theremin (1920), Moog synthesizer (1964), MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) (1981), or 2000s computer technology, found their way to and were used in popular music. Early electronic instruments (like synthesizers) were large, difficult to operate, and monophonic (only able to play one note at a time), but polyphonic versions, like the Prophet-5 (1978) or the portable and practical Mini-moog (1970), had a greater impact on popular music, spawning numerous pop and rock genres.
