Lesser known annual festival of electronic music, based in small village of Felchford, Kent in the United Kingdom. The festival started life in 1974 in nearby Funt as The Upper Funt Electronic Synthesiser Fayre and was a mainstay of druid and hippy culture in England. The event wasn't a huge success. In 1977 Kraftwerk appeared at the Fayre but met with a bad reception owing to technical improficiency. In 1979, the festival relocated to nearby Felchford and became known as the Electronica Festival of Felchford and was regularly attended by BBC Radio 1 DJs such as John Peel. In 1989, Lisa Stansfield became the first woman to appear at the festival without government permission. In 1992 there was further controversy when the KLF controversially hurled insults at a Panda for an hour as an art experiment. Many electronica acts who are now household names cut their teeth on the festival's Mark Goodyear stage such as RSS 232 and Z80***DeathMachine.
