An electrics shop is a workshop in a theater concerned primarily with maintaining electronic equipment involved in theater production.
Work The largest part of this job is calibrating, cleaning and repairing lighting equipment. The electrics shop also manages lighting and sound cables, keeping them organized, clean and functional. It is also concerned with maintenance of sound boards, light boards, dimmers and other miscellaneous theatrical equipment.
Special construction Electrics shops generally have unusually large amounts of power outlets as well as test circuits for various lighting styles. Sometimes an electrics shop is built to be exactly that; other times, however, it is a modified extra room with improvised workspaces. In smaller theaters, it may share a room with the scene shop.
