Elbst is a mythic aquatic creature that is said to live in a lake near Seelisberg in Switzerland. Renward Cysat described it as follows: „Da hatt man zuo underschydenlichen Zythen vnd noch jüngst Anno 1585 jn demselbigen Sew by hällem Tag gsehen zwey Gespenst umher schwümmen unglycher Form... jetzt wie ein gross Sagholz, jetz wie ein Höwburde". (English: At different times, and most recently in 1585, in the same lake in broad daylight, two ghosts of unequal shape were seen swimming around the lake ... now like a log, now like a haystack)<ref name=":0" /> Bibliography * * * * * * |
