Ekapshi Light Atmospheric Fighter

The fictional Ekapshi light atmospheric fighter is a Kilrathi light fighter from Chris Roberts's Wing Commander series of computer games. Its first appearance was in the computer game Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger.

About

In the fictional Wing Commander universe, the Kilrathi Ekapshi light atmospheric fighter was introduced as a planetary defense fighter for planets under Kilrathi control. Christopher Blair encounters several of these fighters on numerous occasions during planetary strikes in Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger.

Ekapshi fighters were designed for atmospheric defense for facilities located on a planet. These fighters were well-equipped and had the speed to perform the job with good results. An Ekapshi fighter had a front-mount weapon array that includes four lasers and two Meson blasters. Their missile payload includes four heat-seeker missiles. An Ekapshi could reach a max velocity of 430 km/s, which was fast enough to pursue most enemy fighters. Unlike most fighters however, the Ekapshi was not designed well for space combat, and thus performed rather poorly while in space, where most starfighters were capable of both space and atmospheric combat. Despite this fact, the Ekapshi fighters were perfect for the job as an atmospheric fighter.

It is unclear whether or not the Kilrathi still use these fighters for defense of their planetary facilities after the Kilrathi War because the Ekapshi fighters never made an appearance after Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger.
