Egoscue Method

The Egoscue Method was founded in San Diego, in 1971, by Pete Egoscue who has spent over thirty years studying the human body as an exercise therapist. His method is based on the concept that muscular dysfunction and postural misalignment, as well as any pain those cause, can be corrected by properly balancing muscle use. Unlike Physical Therapy, The Egoscue Method does not use orthopedic shoes, straps or braces of any kind and is not focused on short term symptomatic relief but rather a long term cure. Egoscue’s method for restoring proper postural alignment is to prescribe a personalized series of exercises and stretches, which stimulate the dysfunctional muscle(s).

Basic Procedure

The analysis phase of The Egoscue Method consists of a visual examination of postural alignment and gait. After the assessment is complete the practitioner then forms a list of exercises, that have been created by The Egoscue Method or have been selected and/or modified from other fields. These exercises, which within the method are called E-cises, can be performed without the therapist present once the proper technique has been learned.
