Edwin Thorne, II

Edwin Thorne, II (20 December 1914, New York City - 15 October 2002, Grand Junction, Colorado) was a member of a prominent American family. Senator John Kerry was married to Thorne's niece. Thorne attended Pomfret, Yale College, and the six-week Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.<ref name="obit" /> Beginning in 1941, he served in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of lieutenant commander on the until 1945.
Thorne was a senior member of management at First National Citibank from 1955 to 1964. In 1958 he was responsible for the bank's expansion throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. When he left Citibank, he became a founding partner in Greylock,<ref name="obit" /> one of the earliest and most successful venture capital firms in the United States. He was a director of Chubb Co., International Banking Corporation, First Boston Corporation, First National City Trust Board and the Putnam Trust Company.
Thorne was a keen sailor and skier. He resided in Greenwich, Connecticut.
