Edward Archbold

Edward Archbold (1980 - October 7, 2012) was an American reptile breeder. He died after eating about a dozen worms and cockroaches in Deerfield Beach.
Archbold had participated in a competition of Ben Siegel Reptiles Store in Deerfield Beach in October 2012. In a competition of the store it was an eating contest of reptile food, in which the winner would receive a Python. After Archbold had eaten the most insects of all 30 participants, he collapsed in the store.
Ben Siegel Reptiles Store posted then on Facebook: "All we know is that he is tragically different. Please respect the privacy of the family, while it is investigated what happened. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eddie's family at this terrible time".
After the death of Archbold the cause of death was investigated. The entomologist Michael Adams of the University of California at Riverside Campus said that he doesn't know any case, in which a man died because of eating cockroaches. He rather suppose that the roaches may have been contaminated with bacteria. Cockroaches would not contain toxic substances to humans.<ref name="Sun"/>
