Edmundo Cranwell (1805-1861) was an Irish apothecary. For the year 1828 he settled in Buenos Aires, where he owned one of the first pharmacies in the city. Biography Edmund Joseph was born in Ireland, son of Richard Cranwell and Mary Cramor. After establishing himself in Buenos Aires he was married in the parish of San Pedro Telmo to Dolores Arenillas, daughter of Ángel Arenillas and María Celestina Margarit. He and his wife were parents of numerous sons, including Guillermo Cranwell, who served as Alcalde of Buenos Aires between 1888 and 1889. In November of 1825, Cranwell obtained permission of the Medicine Court of Buenos Aires to open his pharmacy, located a few meters from the Plaza Mayor, on the street Reconquista. Time later he was associated with Carlos Murray opening the English pharmacy; Cranwell & Murray. After the death of Edmundo Cranwell, his son Eduardo Guillermo opened the Nueva Farmacia Inglesa, a pharmacy located on calle de la Victoria (between Perú and Chacabuco) in the neighborhood of Monserrat. His brother William founded the first apothecary's in Montevideo, Uruguay.
