Duke Status

Duke Status is generally believed to be a neologism designating a superior social status loosely based on the subject's perceived credibility. Usage Amateur ethnologists have yet to come up with a precise definition of duke status. According to several sources on Urban Dictionary dating from as early as 2005, being given the "title" of Duke of Earl or attaining "duke status" is a testament to the dependability or past achievements of the person. Singer-songwriter Femi Oyeniran has used the term in his song "I'm That Guy" as have UK grime group N-Dubz in their recent song "Better Not Waste My Time." Journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson is thought to be an influential figure in the discussion surrounding this title. It has been surmised that one of Mr Thompson's character names, Raoul Duke, may have had an influence on the creation of this term. Linguistic pioneer Dustin Bradley has been known to use the term in his writings. See Also
