Doreen Valiente Foundation

The Doreen Valiente Foundation was set up initially in 2011 by its founder John Belham-Payne in order to curate, and make appropriate use of the legacy that was handed down to him from Doreen Valiente.
The Doreen Valiente Foundation is a charitable trust dedicated to the preservation and protection of material relating to Pagan practices, spirituality, and religion. The Foundation is dedicated to researching and interpreting this material and making both the research and the material accessible to the public for the benefit of wider education and the advancement of knowledge in this unique landscape of living cultural and religious heritage.
The Foundation was established in 2011 and received legal ownership of Doreen Valiente’s entire legacy of artefacts, books, writings, documents, manuscripts and copyrights under a deed of trust that permanently prevents the sale or splitting up of the collection and prohibits the making of profit through the exploitation of the collection. This means that all monies earned by the Foundation (including proceeds from publishing) is spent on pursuing its goals and charitable objects as above.
The Foundation is working towards the establishment of a permanent museum to house the collection, and the physical creation of a Centre for Pagan Studies, which is the organization of which Doreen was patron shortly before her death in 1999. The Foundation succeeded in campaigns to have Heritage Blue Plaques placed on the former homes of Doreen Valiente and Gerald Gardner. The Doreen Valiente Foundation and Centre for Pagan Studies also organize conferences, talks, and exhibitions as well as engaging with the global community in matters of religious history and spiritual heritage.

The Doreen Valiente Collection
The Doreen Valiente Collection is owned by the Doreen Valiente Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1178528 in England and Wales). Doreen Valiente and left her unique collection of witchcraft artefacts to John Belham-Payne, her last high priest. Her writings were foundational to the religion of Wicca and are still used today.
