Donatus Kaufmann

Donatus Bernhard Kaufmann (*August 11, 1962 in Basel,) is a Swiss Manager. Since February 2014 Kaufmann is a member of the Executive Board of the industrial and technology group ThyssenKrupp. He is responsible for the corporate functions Legal, Compliance, Technology, Innovation and Sustainability. Kaufmann is also responsible for the regions North America and Western Europe.
Education and Career
Education
Kaufmann studied Law, History and Political Science at the University of Göttingen, University of Bonn and the University Paris IV. In 1987 he graduated as Licencie d'Histoire at the Sorbonne University. He received his first State Law Degree in 1991 in Düsseldorf and his second State Law Degree in Hamburg in 1996. He received the Admission to the Bar in Düsseldorf the same year. In 1995 Kaufmann passed his doctoral thesis in the area of International Commercial Law (Doctor of Law) in Hamburg. In 1998, he completed, in co-operation with Siemens AG and BMW, a Business Administration-Certificate at the University of Hagen. In 2009 he graduated from the INSEAD International Executive Program.
Career
Vebacom und o.tel.o
Kaufmann started his career in the telecommunications industry in the context of the liberalization and privatization of the German telecommunications market. From 1996 to 1999 he served as a Legal Counsel and Regulatory Advisor at the new entrant telecom companies Vebacom GmbH, a subsidiary of VEBA, and o.telo.o communications GmbH & Co.
Esprit Telecom und Global TeleSystems (GTS)
In 1999, Kaufmann joined the British Esprit Telecom group, which was acquired in the same year by the US telecommunications group GobalTeleSystems (GTS). Until 2002, Kaufmann had been responsible for Law, Regulation and Contract Management at the German GTS subsidiary GlobalTeleSystems (Germany) GmbH in Düsseldorf, one the new entrants in the German telecom market. In addition, he was Member of the Executive Committee Germany. Kaufmann obtained for GTS at the German Federal Network Agency against the incumbent Deutsche Telekom, that the Interconnection with the network of Deutsche Telekom and the access to the Last mile were regulated competitively in favor of the young competitors.
