Dominick Calabria

Dominick Calabria (b. August 12, 1943) is an American educator. Graduating from Purdue University in 1967 with a degree in Education, he has since been a teacher, a high school and college coach of various sports, and a school administrator. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including his attendance of the Army Education Summit, a 2002 education conference comprised of the most accomplished educators in the DoDDS (Department of Defense Dependents Schools) school system. He is currently the principal of Bamberg American High School.



Background

Calabria, the second son of Sebastian Calabria and Concetta DiCicco, was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father was an electrician and his mother a school employee, both immigrants from Italy. Raised in Newark, New Jersey, he attended Barringer High School where he excelled in athletics. He graduated from Barringer in 1961. From there he received a scholarship to play football at Purdue University in Indiana.

In addition to his duties as an educator, Calabria worked various other jobs, including Greyhound bus driver and "beer runner," before accepting a teaching position in the DoDDS Program, in which he has since remained.
