Disappearance of Brittanee Drexel

Brittanee Marie Drexel (born October 7, 1991, in Rochester, New York) is a missing person. She disappeared April 25, 2009, on a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Spring Break with her friends. Her parents were unaware of her trip.
On May 11, 2009, the Dr. Phil Show aired an episode about her disappearance. The program included Drexel's parents, Dawn and Chad, and 20 year old Peter Brozowitz, the last to see Drexel, with his attorney. Drexel's parents stated on the show that she suffers from depression, which may have been a factor that led her to run away.
Brozowitz said that he was with a few other friends and denied involvement in her disappearance. He felt he was being singled out, but was cooperating with Drexel's family and the police. Myrtle Beach Police all but cleared Brozowitz of any possible involvement in Drexel's disappearance. Investigators had also searched in Charleston County, where Drexel's cell phone last transmitted a signal, and Georgetown County, before scaling back the search on May 11.
Dawn Drexel remained in South Carolina the month of May to continue searching for her daughter and publicizing the case. Drexel's boyfriend, John Grieco, organized a fundraiser in Rochester for June 26.
On June 23, 2010, the date Drexel would have graduated, Gates Chili High School awarded her an honorary diploma which her family accepted in her absence. Dawn said that she has still not given up hope that her daughter will be found alive.
Brittanee Drexel's case was featured on the Investigation Discovery program Disappeared, in an episode titled "The Secret Journey."
In January 2011, South Carolina officials brought in a team of retired law enforcement agents from Project Alert. The agents were trained by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
