Dr. Dieter Fleig is a German author and co-author of many books on various dog breeds. Dr. Fleig is an acknowledged international expert on detailing the origins of the old dog fighting breeds. Through research supported with citations, he tells the whole truth about the ancient breeds as the progenitors of their modern era's counterparts, including their skills, temperaments and shortcomings. Dr. Fleig's numerous books on various breeds of dogs in which he gave detailed information about their characteristics and history were originally published in the German language with Kynos Verlag, a publishing house specialized on dogs which he had founded in 1980 with his wife Helga, who shared his passion for dogs. Many of his books were translated into English. He became more widely known in Germany through his advocacy against the draconian restrictions on the keeping of attack dogs that followed a number of fatal accidents involving small children in the 1990s.
