Dhalla Mahamatra

Dhalla Mahamatra (215 BC-152 BC) was a follower of Buddhism and he adopted the Hinayana sect. He preached at Nalanda university in Sanskrit and he is famous for his poem "Matulchandra". He used to bathe every day in the holy river Ganga and also followed Bhakti (one can reach god by personal devotion). He died in 152 BC because of a deadly incurable disease. Marriage Dhalla Mahamatra married Jahmila Durabi at the age of 16. Jahmila Durabi was an ambitious Buddhist.They had two children, Mahendrasimhavarman and Kolamalai. Mahendrasimhavarman and Kolamalai Mahendrasimhavarman went on to become a scholar at Nalanda university whereas Kolamalai performed the Ashwamedha Yajna(Sacrifice of the horse) on behalf of the king. |
