DETENSOR therapy is a system designed for a secure and comfortable relaxation (muscle relaxation), especially for paravertebral muscles and gentle stretching (traction) of the spine to help restore its normal function. History The Detensor method was conceived in 1978 by Dr. Kurt L. Kienlein in Austria EU to help treat back pain. He suffered back pain for many years. In a bid to find relief, he spent time seeing many M.D.’s, chiropractors in Europe and the USA, healers, specialists in acupuncture in China. Dr. Kienlein’s idea was to create something that worked well without the need of an extra person for application and without the use of belts and weights. He evntually came up with the method. Advantages and Disadvantages of Detensor Therapy One advantage of the Detensor-Method is that it is easy to handle. The anatomically and physiologically correct positioning of the spine, as well as the psychological components is another advantage. A considerable disadvantage is the fact that it is not yet possible for eveybody worldwide to have assess to the product. The foam is ribbed with a patented lamella system which allows for the body weight to be redirected and air to flow evenly through the mat. The Detensor works in a gentle way which allows for the spine to be stretched while in a lying position. Does not apply external power or strength to the spine stretching in addition to redistributing the patient's weight. The Detensor traction therapy system was also developed for an easy set up without the use of straps, belts and harnesses making it very efficient and comfortable for a person to use.
