Detensor Method

The Detensor Method
thumb
The method of "DETENSOR" therapy is a system designed for a secure and comfortable relaxation (muscle relaxation), especially for paravertebral muscles and gentle stretching (traction) of the spine to help restore its normal function. It meets the basic requirements of an ideal system for the recovery of the spine, namely the combination of both long-term extensions in complete relaxation while maintaining the physiological curves of the vertebral column(spine). This is ensured by an elastic structure having sloped edges, the position of which varies under the influence of the patient's weight.
The Detensor Spinal Traction System (aka the Detensor) is a non-evasive system, manufactured for relieving vertebral tension and relaxing spinal muscles(spinal decompression) . Austrian company Detensor - Dr. Kienlein registered trademark in the United States in 2015 (US Serial Number: 86596570). Dr. Kurt L. Kienlein popularized its use as a back pain relief aid for lower back pain, upper back pain and neck pain in 1978. It functions effectively as a back traction for home and professional use and is able in many cases to bring people back pain relief. The method and system is patented - patents US 4383342 A and US 20020178505 A1.
Throughout history, boards and devices to hang by the feet were created to relieve people of their back ailments such as herniated discs,cervical spine disorder and spinal cord injuries just to name a few. Hippocrates did this 2500 years ago and it was not very helpful. Francis Glisson, London (1596-1677) was hanging people by the neck, and this is still being done by M.D.’s and other practitioner’s today. There are traction tables, water traction, Glisson sling, etc. All of these methods are creating stress on the spine.
Detensor spinal traction therapy system includes several products:

* Detensor Recumbency Orthosis 5% Mattress
* Detensor Recumbency Orthosis 18% 3-piece Mat
* Functional Cervical Support (FCS) Pillow
* Detensor Fibrotop Mattress Topper
* Detensor Pillow for Babies
* Sitting Orthosis - Vertical Cushion
* Sitting Orthosis - Horizontal Cushion
* Office Chairs Detensor
What distinguishes Detensor from other spinal traction devices are:

* The Detensor Therapy Systems are fabricated with water-processed open-cell polyurethane cold foam, possessing high elasticity and ventilation features.
* The foam is ribbed with a patented lamella system which allows for the body weight to be redirected and air to flow evenly through the mat.
* The Detensor works in a very gentle way which allows for the spine to be stretched while in a lying position.
* Does not apply external power or strength to the spine stretching in addition to redistributing the patient's weight.
* The Detensor traction therapy system was also developed for an easy set up without the use of straps, belts and harnesses making it very efficient and comfortable for a person to use.
* The Detensor products are in daily use in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and private households.
Detail on the Detensor therapy mat are as follow: The Detensor Therapy System consists of three parts; cervical support, back support and a leg support. The Detensor 18% mat comes in three different densities according to a person’s bodyweight and age (Please see chart below). The 18% in the name means that about 18% of the patient's weight is redistributed into a horizontal force of a spine stretching.
In medical practices and at home care, the Detensor has been used for more than 35 years, mostly in Europe, Russia and Middle Asia. More than 3,000,000 patients were successfully treated and there are no known negative side effects with this method. The Detensor Recumbency Orthoses 18% and 5% are also used for the "Anti-gravitation-therapy" for take-off preparation purposes and after landing in space flight centers in Houston, USA and Baikonur, Russia.
