Dennis Maley is an American novelist, journalist and essayist. His debut novel, A Long Road Home, was released in July 2015 by Double Bridge Publishing. The book is described as a coming of age story about a young aspiring musician who is reunited with her biological father following the death of her mother. Maley has written a twice-weekly op/ed column for The Bradenton Times since 2010. His column focuses on politics and economics. He also occasionally reviews local theater and music. Early Life and Education Maley is a native of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, a rural area in the state's anthracite coal region. He attended Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, earning a degree in Government. While at Shippensburg, he was a three-time All-American and captain of the school's boxing team. He won two national silver medals and one bronze. Military and Boxing After college, Maley was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, eventually attaining the rank of Captain. He was a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, where he won several additional amateur titles, including the Golden Gloves. His professional career was cut short after only four fights because of a career-ending shoulder injury.
