DeflOpt is a software utility created by Ben Jos Walbeehm, designed to optimise the storage of DEFLATE streams contained in several types of files. Its current version is 2.07. Currently, only a Windows command line version is available, but a version that can be compiled with GCC and thus produce a version for many other platforms is under development. Supported file types The file types it works on are: * gzip-compressed files, such as Tar.gz and svgz files. * PNG image files - DeflOpt will optimise the image data that is deflated and stored in IDAT chunks in the file. By default, it will remove iCCP, iTXt, and zTXt chunks (among others), but when instructed to keep those, it will try to optimise deflated data in those three chunks as well. It will also combine all the IDAT chunks, and optionally remove any non-essential chunks from the file. * ZIP archives - Any files within a ZIP file, compressed with the Deflate method, will be optimised. Unnecessary information in the archive, such as comments, may optionally be removed from the file.
