Death of Carole Waugh

Carole Waugh was a 50-year-old British millionairess and businesswoman who went missing on or after 16 April 2012. Following her disappearance a series of withdrawals amounting to hundreds of thousand of pounds were made from her savings. Investigators announced in July 2012 that they were probing Waugh's background, while ten people were arrested for fraud in connection with the withdrawal of her savings. Detectives later said they were treating their inquiries into Waugh's disappearance as a murder investigation. A body was found in a lock-up garage on 2 August 2012, which was subsequently identified as Waugh's.
Background
Carole Waugh, originally from a mining village in County Durham is believed to have made her fortune as an oil executive in Libya, where she worked for eight years in that country's nationalised oil industry during the 2000s, before later returning to the United Kingdom. She lived in a flat in the Marylebone area of London, and was unmarried.
On 7 May 2012 Waugh's family reported her missing to police after she had not been in touch with them for several weeks, but detectives initially believed she was alive and well, and had simply chosen not to contact them. However, they revised that position in July after discovering several hundred thousand pounds had been fraudulantly transferred from her bank account, and several personal items including jewellery were missing from her apartment. Following further inquiries they determined that she had disappeared shortly after a visit to relatives in Durham over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend in early April.
