Dawn Tiura Evans

Dawn Tiura Evans is the President and CEO of Sourcing Interests Group (SIG), a membership organization for sourcing, procurement and outsourcing executives. Dawn assumed this role in 2007, after she was hand-selected by then-CEO Barry Wiegler, who was hoping to retire after 16 years of building and running SIG.
Early Life
Evans was born in Taylor, Michigan, where her father was an accountant/auditor at General Motors. Evans is the middle child, with an older brother and younger sister. When Evans was five, her family moved to Flushing, Michigan. A year later, her father was killed in a freak accident. Shortly after, the family moved to Dearborn Heights, where she resided until December 1982, when she left Michigan after college.
Career
Evans originally settled in the California Bay Area in 1983. She married, changed her last name to Miller and started as a CPA in a private practice called Jorgensen and Company. After she made partner, the firm was re-named Jorgensen, Miller & Company. As a CPA, Evans had one client named Co-Development International, founded by some Ph.D.’s in Organizational Development who had applied their skills to strategic sourcing. Co-Development International hired Evans’ CPA firm to build a cost model that they intended to use as part of a sourcing initiative at Kaiser Permanente. It was there that Evans developed a passion for strategic sourcing.
Evans divorced Miller in 1993, sold her CPA firm and went to work with Co-Development International full-time as a consultant. In 1996, when Co-Development was acquired by Deloitte Consulting, Evans chose to forgo joining Deloitte and instead founded Denali Group with two former associates, John Evans and Don Dougherty. Together they grew Denali into highly-respected supply chain consultancy, and built it to include Denali Intelligence, Denali Staffing and Denali Sourcing Services.
Family and Personal Life
In 1997, Dawn married John Evans and they have two children, a boy and a girl ages 13 and 8. Evans also has a daughter and son from her first marriage, both of whom will both graduate from Santa Clara University in June 2013.
Evans has been actively involved on a number of boards promoting civic, health and children’s issues in the San Francisco Bay Area, North Lake Tahoe (where she lived from 2001-2011), and more recently in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, Florida, where she currently resides.
