David Ryan (investor)

David Ryan is a stock investor who is known for winning the U.S. Investing Championship three times between 1985 and 1990. He is a protégé of William O'Neil.
Early life
Ryan is a 1982 graduate of UCLA and holds a bachelor's degree in History. He also holds an MBA from the College of Business Administration at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Ryan is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, having been initiated in the Delta Eta Chapter at UCLA in 1979. He is an avid tennis player and a member of the Bel-Air Bay Club, in Pacific Palisades, California.
Career
Following graduation from UCLA, Ryan joined William O'Neil + Co., Inc in Los Angeles. During his tenure with the company he advised clients on stock selection and general market trends through the firm's products, "New Stock Market Ideas" and "Big Cap Review". In 1992, Ryan became Portfolio Manager of the NEW USA MUTUAL FUND, where William O'Neil served as Chief Market Strategist. O'Neil and Ryan were supported by a team of 3 analysts. In 1997 O'Neil sold the NEW USA GROWTH FUND (renamed) to MFS Financial Services of Boston, MA, and William O'Neil + Co., Inc. exited the mutual fund business.

In July, 1998 Ryan founded Ryan Capital Management in Santa Monica, California, and managed Rustic Partners, a hedge fund for 15 years. The firm was in the investment advisory business and offered stock market expertise and portfolio management experience to a limited number of investors. He served as the investment strategist and portfolio manager for his firm.
Ryan has been mentioned in the book How to Make Money in Stocks by his mentor William O'Neil. He was also profiled in the original Market Wizards - Interviews with Top Traders by Jack Schwager. Ryan also co-author of the book "Momentum Masters - A Roundtable Interview with Super Traders." The other authors included were Mark Minervini, Dan Zanger and Mark Ritchie II.
On June 17, 2018, as part of EASI Investments LLC, Ryan listed an Exchange Traded Fund or ETF, EASI Tactical Growth on the New York Stock Exchange. EASI Tactical Growth trades under the symbol EASI. It is a dynamic growth fund that changes its 50 holdings once every month. It also has a tactical trigger that switches from stocks to short term bonds when the index's trend starts down. Ryan served on the board of trustees of Union Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the poor and homeless.
In recent years, he has taught individual classes for business schools in Southern California. Notably, he serves as an investment advisor for the Student Managed Investment Fund, a club at The Master's University for business students.
