David Oliver (magician)

David Hussey, known by his stage name of David Oliver, is an American magician.
Career
Oliver is known for his neoclassic style of performing stage magic with Doves, the Floating Ball and Linking Rings, as well as his comedy and close-up magic. He also served as adult director of the Society of Young Magicians #29, a youth non-profit. Oliver served as a mentor to many youth performers and magicians, primarily in the New England & New York areas. in New York City, as well as a regular contributor to the magicians' trade publication, Genii, where he reviewed magic tricks and effects. Oliver was also a monthly columnist for the S.A.M. monthly publication, M-U-M Magazine, writing an advice column for millennials.
Oliver was a leader of the Boston chapter of the Society of Young Magicians for over thirty years throughout his career.
Sex abuse allegations
In January, 2019, the State of Massachusetts arrested Oliver on the suspicion that he sexually assaulted children who had attended his magic lessons and held him on $2,000 bail. Massachusetts charged him with sexually abusing four boys at his Rockland home over a ten year period; Oliver was indicted on four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person younger than fourteen by a Plymouth County grand jury in July 2019.
Personal life
In October 2008, David Oliver underwent exploratory lung surgery, for a potentially fatal lung affliction called hypersensitivity pneumonitis caused by working and living with the birds in his show. Subsequently, the doves were removed from his show after being a feature in his act for more than 25 years. The August 2011 issue of Genii detailed his ordeal with the birds. As a result of his lung issues, he underwent a double lung transport in 2013.<ref name=":2" />
