David Capurso

David Capurso is an American film director and screen writer (May 24, 1969) who has directed several cinéma vérité, on-location, character-driven independent films and music videos in the United States, France, Germany and Puerto Rico.
Film
Capurso's first short, Emily's Song established his early surrealist stance, becoming a cult hit and quickly being picked up for distribution by Indie Film Producer Gill Holland.
The film was nominated by IndieWire as one of the best short films in the Cineblast Vol. 3 compilation. Emily's Song competed in the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, Florida International Film Festival, and The Hudson Valley Film Festival. The fifteen minute 35 mm film was shot in New York City and starred Lene Laub Oksen, Barbara Haas, Roberto Chalu and George Jay Wienbarg.
David Capurso has directed various short subject films including Mulholland Ceremonies,starring Adriano Gonzalez, Plumb starring singer/writer/actor Duncan Sheik, and the documentary of William F. Cody's 106-year-old niece, Alice Frederici Reneau, funded by the Buffalo Bill Historical Society in Cody, Wyoming, among others.
Music videos and commercials
Capurso has directed extensively for the Spanish-language market. First with music videos for Argentine artist Kevin Johansen, and for France's Wilfried Paris he went on to create videos for Universal, Sony Music, Warner Music, WEA International, Palm Pictures and RMM Records. Artists he directed include Vivanativa, La Secta AllStar, Tommy Torres, Millo Torres, M16, Fiesta, Ongo, Lisa M, Malitia, Plena Libre, Kevin Ceballo and Grammy-nominated composer and singer Nava (Rodolfo Barreras). In live music he directed live televised concerts for the New York's Central Park SummerStage concert series.
Spanish-language commercials directed by Capurso included spots for Unilever-Lipton, Bacardi, The Clorox Company, HBO Latino and Tommy Hilfiger.
Multicultural history
David Capurso was born in Manhattan New York of Italian, Puerto Rican, and Austrian heritage, as a youth David traveled between New York City and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. His spare time was spent with his grandfather Ramón in the projection booth of the old Italian-style cinema 'El Sol' in Aguadilla. His grandfather projected European and Latin American art-house fare as well as the Hollywood movies while young David helped by splicing film and switching reels.
Capurso is a graduate of the Hunter College, New York honors program in Cinema Studies and Film Production and received multiple art grants from Hunter College for the student short Emily's Song.
