Danita Johnson Hughes is an American healthcare industry executive, professional speaker, author, columnist and television commentator. Career Danita Johnson Hughes is a certified trainer and speaker and is a member of the International Advisory Board of The Professional Woman Network and the John Maxwell Team. Dr. Hughes is the author of Power from Within: Discovering What You Already Have to Live Successfully, Influencing Today's Youth: Shaping the Behaviors, Expectations, and Aspirations of Tomorrow's Leaders, The Unapologetic Woman: Leading with Power and Confidence, and a contributing author for Becoming the Professional Woman. She also delivers seminar presentations and keynotes along with being a regular columnist for the Post Tribune Newspaper. Additionally, Danita Johnson Hughes is President and CEO of Edgewater Systems, a comprehensive health care provider specializing in behavioral health and primary care. She is the only African-American female President/CEO of an Indiana Division of Mental Health certified Mental Health Center in the state of Indiana. Background Hughes is originally from Gary, Indiana and attended Gary West Side High School. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University Northwest in Public Administration. She continued her education earning another master's degree in Social Service Administration and a graduate certificate in Health Administration and Policy from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Human Services from Walden University, Minneapolis.
