Daniel Hensel

Daniel Hensel (born April 17, 1978 in Büdingen, Hesse, Germany) is a German composer.

Biography

Hensel descends from a family of rock and German folk musicians. He first studied classical guitar at the age of seven under Michael Winterling and then studied piano under Johann Baumann. It was Gerhard Schaubach who pepared Hensel for the entrance examintation at in Francfort / Main. There Hensel first met the Austrian composer Gerhard Schedl who taught him composition, harmony, counterpoint and instrumentation for five years. Hensel got a well - founded musical education under Schedl's supervision. It was maybe one of the most important meetings in his whole life. He also studied the piano under Wolfgang Hess and Norbert Brecht and studied flute under Annegret Lucke. In 1999 Hensel passed the entrance examination in composition at the music university Wuerzburg, Germany. From 1999 until 2003 he studied composition under Prof. Heinz Winbeck. To finance his studies, Hensel worked as a certificated medic. In 2003 he first met the composer Moritz Eggert. He also visited colloquiums held by Wolfgang Rihm. In 2003 he changed over to Prof. Manfred Trojahn at the music university of Duesseldorf, Germany. There he passed the final examinations with distinction on January 27th 2004. From 2004 to 2005 he studied composition in post graduated studies under Prof. Michael Obst at the music university of Weimar, Germany. Since 2005 he is back at his old master Prof. Heinz Winbeck to study composition in the masterclass at the music university in Wuerzburg. Private studies at Joachim F.W. Schneider.

Hensel's works have been played at the following festivals and events and have been broadcasted at the following radio stations: concert of the institute of contemporary music "Fuerstenhaus" Weimar (WP. of the Duo for viola and tuba by Garth Knox and Gerard Bouquet), "ADEvantgarde Festival" 2005 in cooperation with the Carl Orff - center (WP of the "Dream Images" op. 8 by the recorderclass of Jeremias Schwarzer and the percussionclass of Prof. Schwander, conductor: Daniel Hensel), "Kasseler Musiktage" 2005 (WP. of "Between the sounds" op.9, by musicians of the Kassel state theater, conductor Bernhard Lang), broadcasted on German broadcasting company HR 2 on 01.27.06, also his works were played and sung by the Heinrich Schuetz Choir - Hannover and members of the state orchestra of lower saxony conducted by Peter Francesco Marino ("Requiem of young hopes" op. 6 in Oct. 2006). The sonata for flute op. 14 was ordered and produced by Carin Levine at the Bavarian boadcasting company BR - Nuremberg studio franconia. Hensel's biggest event in the last time was, that his orchestral piece "rflexions for orchestra" op. 16 had become the German contribution to the hand over of the European council presidency to Slovenia at the gala concert: Europe, the blue star. It was played by the young.euro.classics and was conducted by Mr. Sebastian Weigle. The gala concert was under the partronage of the German state department and it's secretary of state: Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Also present at the concert was the former federal president
Richard von Weizsäcker. The gala concert was broadcasted on July 6th 2007 on "Deutschlandradio".
