Dana Tan is a character on the WB cartoon series Batman Beyond, voiced by Lauren Tom. She is of at least partial Asian heritage, and, although the specifics of her background are unknown, her surname 'Tan' seems to indicate that she is of Chinese descent.
Character History
Dana Tan was introduced in "Rebirth", the pilot episode of Batman Beyond, in which she is shown to be the girlfriend of Terry McGinnis, the new Batman. Throughout the series and the spinoff movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, she is a consistent feature of Terry's life. She does not know that her boyfriend is Batman; he is able to excuse most of his absences because of his job with Bruce Wayne. Later their mutual friend learns his secret and helps cover for him as well.
The relationship is not a casual relationship; even in the very first episode, when Terry has Dana drop him off at Bruce Wayne's mansion, she expresses great concern about leaving him in the middle of nowhere, and he responds with tenderness. Terry's double life places a strain on their relationship, which does result in a break-up, but they reconcile.
In the Justice League Unlimited episode "Epilogue", which shows Terry and Dana as adults, reveals that Dana now knows about Terry's identity as Batman and is willing to accept the danger that comes with it. Terry considers breaking up the relationship permanently, however.
Terry finally has a conversation with Amanda Waller, who advises him (among other things) that if he wants to avoid the loneliness that plagued Bruce Wayne, he needs to maintain his relationships-- something Bruce was never able to do. The episode ends with Terry planning to propose marriage to Dana.
