Cultural sensibility

The term cultural sensibility refers to the specific aesthetic ideas that characterize a particular period, country or cultural movement. An author may use the alternative term contemporary sensibility to refer to the current culture of his own society. The cultural movement can be further qualified, like in postmodern sensibility.
Sometimes the term sensibility is used as meaning emotional condescension rather than competence, giving to the expression "cultural sensibility" condescending tone towards other cultures.
Examples
Renaissance sensibility had an ideal of beauty that was specific of a particular time and place.
An example of postmodern sensibility is that it dictated that works of parody should parody the idea of parody itself.
