Cristobal cavazos

Cristobal Cavazos Cardenas(1979-present) is a Latino and immigrant rights activist active
in Dupage County, a county west of Chicago.
Early Life
The son of former Mexican itinerant farm laborers from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas and
Northern Mexico, Cavazos was raised in Glendale Heights IL becoming interested in poltical
activism reading about the Chicano Movement of the 1960s and 70s, Native American history, the Mexican and Cuban Revolutions, while listening to stories of the exploitation of Latinos in the fields and workplace by his parents
growing up as a youth.
Education
Described as a "rebel with a good heart" by his peers Cavazos graduated Glenbard West High in 1997, recieved his Bachelors from North Central College in Napeville in 2004 and his Masters from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb in 2009.
Activity
Cavazos is a co-founder of Immigrant Solidarity Dupage a group whose mission is to educate, unite and mobilize the community around the rights and struggles of Latinos in Dupage County.(1) Inspired by the mega-marches of 2006 and advised by several prominent March 10 Coalition activists in Chicago--the marches organizers, the group has gone on to organize marches, rallies, press conferences and community forums and is the largest Latino advocacy organization in the western suburbs of Chicago. Immigrant Solidarity Dupage has been especially vigilant that local area politicians refrain from immigrant bashing in electoral cycles for short-term poltical gain having held rallys and press conferences at politicians like Peter Roskam's (IL-6) offive.(2) The group has forged alliances with immigrant rights groups and activists both in Chicago and exurbs like Elgin, Joliet and Aurora making Dupage a hub of activity, solidarity and information sharing for the immigrant rights movement. Immigrant Soldarity Dupage is currently working on gaining Non-Profit status and plans to open a latino community and resource center in Dupage in the vein of Casa Atzlan and the Mission of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Chicago. In addition, Cavazos is also a public speaker, published journalist, musician and artist and has been active in other popular campaigns in Chicagoland in the struggle for social justice.
Personal
Cavazos is the father of baby Anita Naoli Cavazos who was born to Cavazos and long-time partner Tania Brown Hernandez
in 2008.
