Courtney Wickman (born circa 1979) is the unmarried daughter of Lance B. Wickman. Courtney's unmarried status became public during a 2006 interview with her father. Her father is a prominent member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) During that interview, Lance Wickman, stated "I happen to have a handicapped daughter. She’s a beautiful girl. She’ll be 27 next week. Her name is Courtney. Courtney will never marry in this life, yet she looks wistfully upon those who do." No explanation of her handicap has been given. It is not known if it is a physical or mental disability. Courtney Wickman's handicap was compared to a person with Same-Gender attractions by her father. Her father stated that neither his daughter nor someone with unresolved Same-Gender attractions could marry. Courtney Wickman received minor notoriety after he father's interview was published. Her situation was discussed on multiple LGBT websites and blogs.. Some of which object to the comparison of homosexuality with disabilities. Several U.S. states and nations allow same sex marriage but such a marriage would be considered a sin under the tenets of the LDS. Courtney Wickman's handicap was not specified as physical or mental, therefore it is not possible to know if her marriage prohibition was by the LDS or by the State of Utah.
