Country of Austin

The Country of Austin, better known as just Austin, is a micronation located inside of the United States of America, within the borders of the state of Missouri. It claims part of a residential area along with a portion of Riss Lake to hold 71.4 acres of territory. The Country of Austin is also located near the Missouri River. Founded in 2014 by former Prime Minister Austin Felton, the micronation has a population of about 150 citizens, along with a group of online citizenship holders. On June 19, 2015, the country drafted its first constitution, which though it has been revised since, has always shown a focus on libertarian ideals, and the commitment to a limited government. Particularly in the early years of the micronation, Austin Felton worked with long time friends Luke Hensel, Jake Hensel and Quentin Tasset to meet the requirements of the Montevideo Convention, which outlines what is needed for statehood. Letters were even sent back and forth between these four founders and Ban Ki-moon, former secretary general of the United Nations, though these communications never amounted to a UN membership.
History
In late 2014, a young Austin Felton and his friend Jake Hensel were talking, when a discussion about the purpose of government came up. The next day, still intrigued by the conversation, Austin researched different types of nations, and came across the concept of micronations. In this moment he decided to try and make his own. After first naming the country after himself, Austin gathered Jake, his older brother Luke, and another friend named Quentin Tasset together to ask for help. The four, who all were neighbors, first created a flag, which was green in the top left and bottom right corners, and yellow in the top right and bottom left corners. They then found out about the Montevideo Convention and set out to fulfill the four requirements laid out to become a nation.
For territory, they claimed their residential street and for population, they volunteered themselves. The next requirement was government, so the four did that next. The provisional government was at first similar to the United States’, but it would change in the coming years, as would many parts of the Country of Austin (COA). The fourth requirement was the ability to enter into relations with other states, which the country could not complete yet. Moving forward nonetheless, the four founders began to recruit new citizens for the country, while also beginning the construction of a building to use as a capital. Though it has been renamed before, this building is currently named Fort Cinco. One of the locals Luke was trying to recruit to join Austin was a man known as Dan, who promptly decided to start his own nation called Danland instead and declare war on the fledgling country. The war was ended without much fighting, and the two micronations now have an alliance, which they claim lets them both meet the final requirement from the Montevideo Convention. However, these claims are obviously shaky at best.
Geography
The geography of Austin is very diverse. Hilly residential areas make up a large portion of the country. To the right of the three streets of houses there is a nature trail and pond. To the south there is an even bigger natural space which includes a trail through a large deciduous forest. The southern end of the country also includes a community center with a pool, playground, volleyball court, basketball court and tennis courts. To the west of the residential space there is a portion of Riss Lake that the country claims.
Austin has a humid continental climate, with the hottest months having an average high temperature of 90 degrees and average low of 73 degrees. The coldest months have a high of 41 degrees and a low of 24 degrees. Austin averages about 40 inches of rain and 16 inches of snow per year as well.
