Construction document communication

Construction Document Communication (CDC) is an emerging area of data management within the contruction industry. Historically, document management has referred to actions and processes associated with organizing documents to allow for ease of access to shared documents across private networks. Traditional document management applications include Microsoft Sharepoint, and many others.
Construction Document Communication tools, such as www.BuilditLive.com, go beyond merely the management of documents. CDC applications not only centralize the most critical construction documents, such as drawings, specifications, schdules, change orders, and punch lists, but they also provide mechanisms where by a central 'site owner' can easily manage the invitation and permissions of all the users of the site. Furthermore, Requests For Information (RFIs) are effectively managed through a process of submission, approval, and posting of both the RFI and the corresponding answers. CDC tools are characterized as extremely user friendly, to the point of needing little or no training to use, and very inexpensive relative to traditional document management or project management tools costing thousands of dollars per month.
Many CDC tools are SaaS based, allowing for access outside of a corporate firewall, a severe limitation of most applications such as Sharepoint. All parties to a construction project can access that project's information any time, from any Internet browser.
